Some interesting stuff I found on net etc..

This is post is kind of repository of some of the stuff that I found somewhat interesting on net.

I not a big fan of France and would not wish to live there but recently read somewhere that a France Telecom just announced they are offering 2.5 Gb/s Internet connections to select cities in the Paris region. For ... $85(70 Euros) a month you also get free phone and TV. From the article (in French): 'The historical operator opted for a GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) FTTH architecture (Fiber To The Home). This technology allows up to 2.5 Gbits/s download and 1.2 Gigabits/s upload. So what does that mean for us mortals is firing up bit torrents. With this kind of bandwidth we can have VPN, VNC, Game Servers - Battlefield 2, HD video from youtube/google.video, VOIP telephone banks, and Website hosting, remote backups, anything that is bandwidth intensive all simultaneously. But I just don't see most residential homes needing to play online games while working from the corporate server through a VPN while talking on the VOIP phone while streaming YouTube and Google Video at the same time while running your personal website while backing up all of your data. I do agree that businesses would benefit tremendously from cheapening the "tubes."

K T Tunstall is my favorite singer artist at present. Ever since I herd her on FM while driving to work I became big fan of hers. My favorite being Big Black Horse and Cherry Tree. Once you listen to it you become a fan. You can listen to some of her songs on her MySpace Profile also if you feel like watching there are tons of her videos on Googles and Youtubes of the world.

This video is again an awesome one. Not sure how many takes it must have taken to do this thing.

I asked our office assistant Brenda that I needed a maintenance guy to oil my chair because it's squeaking really bad... and she wanted to know if I had been drinking more beer and putting on weight. I am surprised the women don't pay attention to my figure :)

It happens with all of us at work, happened to me couple of times in office I am amused when people hold the door open for me in the stairwell. Not only are they not being helpful, they actually block my path
At couple of instance I've had them hold a whole elevator full of people thinking I was going to get on before.

News that only interests me

SMS... What a wonderful thing...? or Is It?...

Just read on timesofindia about a recent survey SMS influencing romance. I found the article rather lame and the survey quite outdated but it is truth. I haven’t seen much SMS use in US though. I must say I have seen a friend of mine had his girl friend and friends SMSed him… the only person who SMS’s me is my lovely rich saala…I like some of his SMS’s and they do bring smile. Being lazy I will never get used to SMS.. I don’t even remember sending a single SMS.

Anyways…

Pinks and I have been married for some time now and have know each other since childhood (oh.. no.. ours was not a child marriage), but, unlike many couples in India, we still haven't engaged in SMS. It's not that we're too old-fashioned for it. We just don't have the right equipment. According to one India Today article, about 4 crore SMS messages are sent daily, some traveling many miles, others just a few yards.

Wife: "Y r u not cming to bed?" Husband: "Crckt mtch. Gd nght!"

SMS, has given many us the opportunity to butcher English like never before. Forget spelling, forget punctuation, forget the lecture your English teacher gave you when you said, "I am not understanding why grammar be important." Anything goes in SMS, as long as people can make sense of your msg (message). It's easy to be misunderstood. What's most remarkable about SMS is its role in romance. Couples are using SMS not just to keep in touch, but to express affection for each other. Sometimes it takes just three letters ("Lv u"), other times it takes as many as 35 ("Lv u so vry mch. Almst as mch as I lv Hrthk Rshn.") SMS has allowed some couples to be more intimate, to loosen whatever restraints their culture and upbringing have imposed on them.

Even a simple "thnkng abt u" can put a smile on a wife's face, allowing her to feel closer to her husband and look forward to seeing him again, as soon as the Test series is over.(ok this is about me because I am big time sports fan but not as much as I am food fan)

But SMS isn't just for established couples. Like an Internet chat room, the tiny screen of a mobile handset allows you to flirt with people you barely know. You might be too shy to speak to the cute co-worker in the opposite cubicle, but you can easily write your feelings: "I thnk I'm fllng n lv wth u. Whts ur nm agn?" SMS can't be monitored by your boss, which means you won't be reprimanded for consulting your spouse about a critical issue: "Whch mvie shld we c tnight?" Indeed, SMS is so private, you can read messages from your boyfriend while doing something important, such as having dinner with your husband. But try to avoid such situations, unless you're desperate for some good SMS. Unfortunately or may be fortunately, my wife and I can't engage in SMS because we have only one mobile phone. That means we have to settle for the old way of communicating: email.

Nice.. diet code and mentos

Not sure how many of you have seen this video. YouTube has tons of mentos videos but not this one. This is by far the best diet coke + mentos video.
Check it out here.... http://eepybird.com/dcm1.html

World cup over what next...

Wow!! Finally world cup is over and Italy won. I was expecting them to win but not through PK’s but during regulation time itself. The French played a better game and the better team lost but through no fault of the Italians. In any case Soccer is rather like life. A Shakesperian Tragedy. Quel Dommage.

I would not comment on the Red card issue but there were too many mistakes that referees made I'd be all for some kind of replay system, because the games were as much about diving as anything, this will surely slow down the game but I guess it will be fair too.

I watched the final with couple of my American friends and one of them followed the world cup keenly but was disappointed by it. He said… “This is the first World Cup I've ever paid attention to, and it might be my last. What a strange sport--most of the games seemed to consist of somebody being brushed up against, falling down and rolling around on the ground as if he were shot, followed by the crowd whistling in unison.

And then after most of the games go through 90 minutes of 0-0 or 1-1, they go to penalty kicks, which is like ending a World Series (Baseball finals played between teams of two American cities.. sometimes played between 2 teams of same city) game with a home run hitting contest.

I understand it's by far the most popular sport in the world, but I guess it's just not my cup of tea.”

On my part I enjoyed the game very much especially with beer flowing around at the same time I feel a void.. now what.. world cup is over, no cricket for few months, no tennis for sometime and no basketball and football either… what am I going to watch on TV, I no longer have any reasons not to listen to wife…

Yahoo AlltheWeb

Yahoo can now be proud to say that they are taking Google head on. One of the guys with whom I was working in Research department joined yahoo and he has been working on redesigning of this search tool for couple of years. Infact I find this search tool better compared to Google's search
This is what Prasad has been working on at yahoo.

I vaguely remember alltheweb from the past... apperently, Yahoo acquired them as a part of Overture. Here is some more info on it from WikiPedia

Warren joins gates...

Just when I thought that this week I will have more free time, things have turned around and I have got more work.. why can’t I have something good.. Anyways wify is coming back.. have been waiting for this day for quite sometime.

Anyways couple of weeks back I really appreciated what Mr. Microsoft was doing with his money. Now his friend the Oracle of Omaha ( Mr.Buffet)has joined him together they have created a charitable foundation bigger then the GDP of Kuwait with yearly spending budget that equals the GDP of Peru. It is because of these people that US is such a wonderful country. Here most of the people donate to their favorite charities, in terms of time and money. Leave alone the rich people even common people like us do it. People here really care for other human being. We Indian often blame our government for not doing anything but we look at ourselves we see that we have done nothing for the country. US is developed not just by government but mostly because of its people, the people might not be good in math or science but they are good at doing whatever they do. India too has its share of business people but they are not doing much for the community.. these people are busy fighting within their own families.. how can these people even think of helping others.
